The UK is a nation of individuals with no central organisation to voice their objections.

30 years ago there were the trade unions who, rightly or wrongly, were the voice of the workers. They were decimated by Thatcher who viewed the Unions as a threat to her way of life. Since that time the people of this country have had no means of raising objections to any legislation passed by any party in power.

We have become an extremely divided and conquered nation. Until such time as an individual or group steps forward that the people are willing to follow we shall remain so. Until that time we will remain at the mercy of those who hold the reins of power.

The new ID cards they have been suggesting we carry or do you think another solution would be better? Say, like for the future the beginning of DNA testing from birth so this way people can be identified? (Although we need a solution at present)

The arguments put forward in favour of ID cards are largely a blind. There's little or no reason to believe that these would have a significant impact in fighting terrorism or dealing with illegal immigration and benefit fraud. I've been involved in this kind of area and there is no document that cannot be forged, given the will, money and technology. Terrorists and criminals running major fraud operations are the very people with the will and means to do this. And so they will. Sure ID cards might have an impact on, say, your more opportunist benefit fraud but to nothing like the extent necessary to justify such enormous expense. And don't for a moment believe that even the several billion pound cost presently projected won't rise to a still more astronomical number - this invariably happens with government IT contracts.

So ID cards will be hugely expensive and of marginal value in fighting serious organised crime. Exactly what does justify the cost ? It's all speculation really but best bet is probably a national database, storing large amounts of data for each of us. Does sound very 'big brother' I know but then we've now reached the point where chips in bins to check we're disposing of rubbish correctly are becoming a reality - bets are off, I'd say.

The interesting thing about a national database is what would be included ? Name, address, date of birth, place of birth, blood group, driver or not - maybe. But how about criminal record, relationship history, medical history, sexual orientation, employment, income ? How about more commercial information, useful to the private sector. If that sounds ridiculous just think about the ever growing amount of private sector involvement in the public services - cleaning hospitals badly, running prisons for profit. This might be alarmist and wrong but, think about it, what else justifies the cost ?

Reply:How do you know what the information collected is to be used for? In future how do you know that criminals won't be convicted by a computer alone matching the D.N.A found at a scene of crime (D.N.A evidence is not infallible). The absolute bottom line is that I will not have one of these cards. History shows that what you are told by a politician is only ever half the story of what is intended and while i have nothing to hide I do fear what the future holds in a country where the authorities hold data of what literally makes up you.

We need to remember that this is the digital age, if ID cards are going to solve all crime overnight and make the UK safe from terrrorists then I am the president of the U.S.A. Anthing that can be made or produced can be forged and at the end of the day what will stop a determined hacker from changing details of DNA online (the database would have to be online in some form or another to allow the various police forces and authorities to access it when required)

Incidently, the Social Security Act expressly prohibits the SS Card from being used as an ID card of any kind because of fear it would become a "national ID", which the Congress and FDR absolutely didn't want back in 1933.

I am going to do some international travel this summer. I know there is an ID card available for people with pacemakers, etc to help them more easily get through security checkpoints. Is such a card available for people with prosthetic devices, such as legs which may normally be covered by pants?

as far as I know there is no card. I just tell people at the security gate that I wear an artificial leg. One woman I know carries her disabled parking permit with her and a note from the doctor. And I know another woman with multiple health issues has it included in her medical alert bracelet.

I haven't had any real issues flying. I was told they can't tell you to take off your prosthetic and so far I've never so much as been asked. They ask to pat down the leg but always get a woman and never make a big deal of things.

for one thing, national id cards have been tied to almost every instance of genocide in modern history ... im not sure about the UK, but in the US they will be giving us chipped cards in 2008 and most likely there will be a centralized data base ... most likely in the future you will be required to scan ur card for every transaction, maybe even to get online, and probably anywhere you travel ... in the US the rules have been left up to homeland security ...i think the opportunity for abuse of the system and opression of the people and rights is very high and it is dangerous to have a system like that...

It would be easier to prevent identity theft if Social Security cards had thumb prints and photo IDs on them (and laminated, too). Someone from the Social Security office would then be able to tell an identity thief from the real person.

If an identity thief got ahold of a regular SS card, he/she can do anything with that number on the card.

Social Security numbers are only suppose to be used for identification by people who will be paying social security taxes into your social security account. It was never intended to be a national ID used by credit cards, mortgage companies or anyone else.

In fact, it is against federal law to do so. Despite that, everyone does it. That is why every company who uses a social security number as an ID bears full responsibility for security problems and identity theft when an SSN is used.
Reply:Its actually illegal to laminate your SS card. I'm not sure why. I think that its easier to see / verify the signature if the card is not laminated.

It probably is also because they are easily destructable and very difficult to replace if you are not the true owner.

Reply:you dont have to wait for the card to expire but when you get your drivers license they'll take your Id card because you have a new form of ID (your drivers license) and they think if you have both you'll edit one to make yourself 21 or something..
Reply:You can apply for the license whenever you want. Your ID card will be void as soon as you get the license in your hand (they may or may not ask you to turn it in, but the magnetic strip will stop working).

Yes we are. The government line is that it will help the fight against crime (and illegal immigration) Opinion is divided about its 'benefits' In addition there is the worry that every major project undertaken by this government has been a disaster especially in the areas of new technology.

The failures of computer systems in the Home office, NHS, Customs, the Passports fiasco are just the ones I can remember quickly.

Add to that the fact that the law abiding citizen is the one who will pay, perhaps a s much as £1,000 depending on the size of your family. It looks like another stealth tax to employ a few extra people at the public's' expense and a further payback to the big business that has funded Tony and Gordon's big adventure.

You can add road pricing as another in the same league, along with the insidious use of speed cameras to raise revenue.

Not a fan as I don't believe it will tackle the real cause of crime in the UK

My daughter is going to camp in Canada. She needs a passport or a valid id. Oregon used to issue id cards on the spot - now the issue interim cards and the plastic one comes in the mail 5 - 10 days later. I wasn't aware of the change and didn't plan to allow for the extra days. problem is - she leaves for camp Monday! Yikes! Will she be able to use her interim card?

I did what you did, printed out my ID, and have used it at every tournament I've been in. I'd venture to guess that as long as you at least have your POP ID number with you, it will be acceptable.

Reply:You WILL be getting an ID card so you better get used to it. It will be a civil offence if you don't turn up (or have a reasonable excuse) to have your details taken. This will be in the form of a regular FINE. You will not be taken to prison, if you don't accept it you will be gradually made BANKRUPT. This is enough of a deterrent for most people.

Just to say that I am 100% against ID cards and the perverted "slavery is freedom" philosophy behind them. A passport is ID. No on has explained how ID is supposed to stop a suicide bomber, yet thats supposedly why we need them.

A credit card is ID. You'd think the credit card companies have a vested interest in keeping the system secure yet the servers of the major companies were hacked last year and tens of thousands of numbers stolen - if you got any unexplained items on your bill you were told your id was stolen and told to buy a shredder.

I got my ID card in 2000 and my surname, my name and my father's name are written in both the greek and the latin alphabet. The rest data is written with Greek characters. It is increasingly likely, in fact, it is definitely going to happen, that we will all be issued with National ID cards in the near future.

Normally I would not object to ID cards, I used to have on when in the RAF. and I have to carry one for work normally.

But the governments ID card is more than that, it holds too much details about you that the governement cannot be trusted with and it will sell the details off to people. Just take a look a car number plate recognition, they now employ private companies who have access to your details. Is this right, who vets the people who work there? because some of them are low paid and I am sure could easly be bribed.

Secondly the government wants us all to pay for the ID card ourselves, thus it becomes a Tax and thats just not fair.

They prevent a certain amount of identity theft. Nobody can use your credit cards without them. Every card transaction here requires proof of identity. I can´t believ it in the U.K. that I can use my card freely and am not asked to show any other documentation. I could have just found that card on the floor!

I had cheques stolen and cashed with a forged name and false signature in the UK. That wouldn´t happen here.

People are against them because they are something new and different. THey are a good idea in my experience.

Despite not yet learning to drive, my best option was to pay £40 for a driving licence. When other similar questions have been asked there is a lot of objection on the grounds that it is an infringement on our freedom. Well some people should wake up and realise that the freedom that we hold so dear is the problem. Recently someone that we know was arrested for child porn offences, the person was innocent and was eventually cleared of the charges. The FBI had followed an electronic paper trail to this person, because , unknown to them, their identity had been stolen. The person who was falsely arrested lives in the UK, the FBI had become involved and notified British authorities. This could happen to anyone as our freedoms are so easily exploited by criminals and terrorists.

If ID cards will help prevent this kind of incident then we should have them, regardless of costs. Anyone who objects to the principle of defending our freedom and keeping our society secure must have something to hide.

Maybe an ID card with several points of reference is the answer, and any photograph should be held on a data base, so that if the card is scanned the person checking the ID will be able to see if the card holder is genuine. If administered correctly this could be a very effective system and almost impossible to forge, becuase the data will not be held on the card, but on a national data base.

An immigrant can't identify themselves so they can't get an ID card. So there's no point us getting one, cos we have to identify ourselves to get one. Get it? If we've already identified ourself, whats the point in an ID card?

Reply:No. The main point of the ID card scheme is that you will be able to prove you are legally allowed to reside in the UK. I have dealings with immigration in my job and there are many people who simply disappear and never report back to immigration to be deported (wonder why?!) At the minute, if these people are found again, it becomes hard for the authorities to deport them, because there is no national scheme to tell them who they are. An ID card scheme would show that this person was legal or not and if not he could quickly be forcibly deported.

No. When you are IRR, you have essentially the same privileges that a civilian does. If you want an ID card you have to be a drilling reservist, or just plain old active duty.
Reply:Yes you are eligible for it. All you need to do is go to your nearest branch personnel office to get photographed and get issued with a military ID. With this, you are eligible to go to the PX and Commissary as well as access anything on base. heck, you are still in the military but just not drilling. You can also get a base sticker for your car so you won't be stopped and get inspected every time you go through the gate.

You also have access to taking CLEP and DANTES exams in the education center inside the base. You are in the military still.

You are right, and that is exactly what the ID is about, the form of the 666, actually called 'the mark of the beast". A real ID card would prove that you are a US citizen. Naturally, illegals could not get and use one..so they can't use any service where you'd need to show an ID.

Right now ID's are a tiny piece of plastic...even high school kids can make fake ones. Real ID's would be copy/fake proof.

You need a social security card to get a job, legally. Though it's so easy to make a fake one or steal one. Real ID's would put a stop to that.

And real ID's would make it easy to round up the illegals.....cop pulls someone over and they have no ID and say something like "No cerro, el passo delo''...snap, he is deported.

If they go the full route of a biometric activated computer chip type ID(so the card is only activated if you hold it in your hand) then it would put a stop to identity theft.

And of course the poor..um..hapless people would suffer too...as they are not quite..um..able enough to go and get the ID's the way normal citizens can. So the poor would not be able to get things that needed the ID. And the poor people would then be very sad.

A lot of town councils have special ID`s for those over 18 as proof of their age on licenced premises.

New Hampshire, Georgia, Massachusetts, Montana, and Washington. However the the following is part of the The Real ID act started off as H.R. 418, which passed the House (261-161-11) and went stagnant. It was then attached as a rider on a military spending bill (H.R. 1268) by Congressman Jim Sensenbrenner (R) of Wisconsin (the author) and was voted upon (100-0) . It was signed into public law (109-13) on May 11, 2005.

Below is part of it-those that reject it will certainly not be able to fly..

After May 11, 2008, "a Federal agency may not accept, for any official purpose, a driver's license or identification card issued by a State to any person unless the State is meeting the requirements" specified in the Real ID Act. States remain free to also issue non-complying licenses and ID's, so long as these have a unique design and a clear statement that they cannot be accepted for any Federal identification purpose. The federal Transportation Security Administration is responsible for security check-in at airports, so bearers of non-compliant documents would no longer be able to travel on common carrier aircraft

Yes, I just read this same article and I was astounded. I think that Harford, Conn. should get absolutely no subsidies from the Federal government for any of their social services since they are basically declaring themselves a sanctuary for illegal immigrants and obviously encouraging them to come there and more likely than not allowing them access to social benefits that they should not be entitled to. I think this is shameful.

Firstly, I and most of the population would refuse to constantly keep that card in my pocket.
Reply:If the card had just name, address, photo and either eye scan or finger print and was free and did not have to be carried round all the time then I wouldn't be so anti it but...

1. The government can't be trusted with our info

2. They are likely to sell it off to the highest bidder and I have enough junk mail in my life

3. More information can be included at a later date on the instigation of large companies ie, insurance wanting DNA info on hereditary diseases etc.

4. With all other forms of ID, I choose what information others know about me. Why should I lose that right?

5. Its been proved that it doesn't work against terrorists - ie, Madrid or fraud - there will always be a way of copying these cards.
Reply:They would be a financial burden, as in countries within the EU where they already exist, one has to fork out an impressively large amount every year to renew them.

There is a risk of losing them or having them stolen and then one would be completely stumped.

There would be problems for legitimate UK citizens who were abroad at the time their ID card needed renewal. I live in a country where people have to travel abroad to renw their passports. It would be the last straw if one had to do the same for ID cards on an annual basis.

The cards would carry more information than one would perhaps wish to disclose to just any person demanding to see them.

Already we have a government known for its carelessness in losing personal data. This would be yet another thing for them to lose, with disastrous results.

There is a risk of forgery and even cloning of identities.

Why should the housebound (disabled people, carers, etc.) be given yet another burden in having to deal with annual renewal of cards?

There is a distinct risk of the authorities not being able to cope with the volume and of people being left stranded for weeks or months with an expired card which nobody will accept.
Reply:What everybody is missing is that Real ID is already federally mandated. Each state has to begin it in 2008 and has to be in full complience by 2010. When you renew any ID you have to show your documents in person and social security number. The documents will be verified with whoever and the social will be verified w. the government. You just prove that you are who you say....... no biggie.

If you move to another state you have to do it all over again. States are increasingly linked up anyway so in effect we will basically have national ID in a way. Just like most every other western country.

Unless you are a criminal or an illegal you would have nothing to worry about. Do people think that if you are a normal person with a cell, regular phone, a house, a car, bank account or whatnot that the government can't find out all it needs to know about a person?

Ask the local police about what you should have. You should always have a picture that was taken within the last six months, both face and body. They can also take his fingerprints and then give you a set so you have them. You can contact the missing children's website, to see what they recommend, too. Frankly, I would also formalize the custodial relationship in court, so everyone knows what is expected.

Reply:Check with your local police station. In Canada, there is a package that allows you to get their fingerprints and has a spot for recent photos and any information (medical etc.). It's a great thing to have and hopefully you will never have to use it.

According to Philip Johnston's article in today's Telegraph, most people will have no choice about having their personal details entered in the national ID database because it will happen automatically when we apply for a passport. This could be extended to driving licence renewals. As he says, not having a passport or driving licence is not a realistic option for most people.

Later on in his article, he claims that there will be hundreds of thousands of ID refuseniks who will refuse to have an ID card.

Johnston doubts that the government would really be able to track down these hundreds of thousands of refuseniks.

The problem is the RFID chip. It's an asset tag for humans and will allow real-time tracking of people just like the Criminal Justice tags given to offenders that are given early release from prison, but much better. You won't even know when your details are being read.

Reply:It not Illegal per say, there both the same thing 'cept one grants permission to operate a vehicle on state roadways. It gets touchy because there are laws both state and national stating that you MAY NOT be in possession of more than one form of government issued ID, legally the DMV should have revoked your state ID card on the spot...But if the info is the same then you should not have a problem getting caught with them... the problem starts with the info being different whether it be hair color or 2 id with different addresses. then some LAW officer can push on you for "impersonating" charges and a whole list of problems but it is the DMV's fault for not revoking your state ID

If he's on active duty, at boot camp, you'll receive a packet of information in the mail soon. Your husband should have you and the kids in DEERS already. Once you get the info in the mail you can go to just about any military activity and have ID cards made.
Reply:He will have to enroll you in deers, then accompany you to the ID section of the personnel support detachment (PSD) at the local base he's assigned to.

Reservist centers don't always have the facilities necessary to make ID cards, and rely on the PSD at the local base.

If they state you need to have an ID in addition to a passport that is nearly at the end of its useful time, better replace your passport before you travel.

Reply:I don't think it will be as bad as you feel. Yes, it will be an Identification card, and it will allow the government to better keep track of who is who, but to think they will be tracking your every move? That is paranoia.

I just hope this ID card will do the following

a) cut down on identity theft

I remember I saw a show on Discovery channel years ago that said that eventually we might have one "super card" that would be a combination of your ID, drivers license and every credit card you own.

heck, I believe that you should have a picture on just about everything that matter - credit cards, social security card, etc..

Reply:Your SIN card and driver's license are NOT identification. The SIN is only for use by Revenue Canada (or what ever its called now) so you can pay your income tax, the driver's license only says that you can drive in the provence that you live in. Neither of these cards say that you are a citizen of Canada, because I am a naturalised citizen I actually do have a National Identity card ($80).

me and my fiancé are getting married when he comes home on leave. He will be stationed in japan at the kadena air base. When can I get enrolled into Deers, get my Id card, and get on tricare? Also what kinda housing will he be put into when he first gets there?

Any military installation or reserve center will have an id office. You will need your marriage cert and social security card and ID. They will get you into deers at the same time. As far as Tri Care goes, have him check with his medical personnel at his command. I believe you can enroll at tri care online and there again military installations will have a tri care rep on hand.
Reply:Once you are actually married, your husband will go to the personnel office and fill out an ID application for you. Once the ID is issued they will enroll you into DEERS. Since he is active duty military, I believe the medical is automatically covered. If your furture husband has orders already to Kadena, he can contact his sponsor and get onto the housing list once you are married. Oh and don't forget he needs to also do a page 2 so he get you on his SGLI. Congrats by the way.

Reply:Once you are married, your hubby will need to take your marriage license, social security card and possibly birth certificate to the nearest base. He can then enroll you in DEERS and Tricare and get you your ID. He has to do this...you can't do it alone, at least not easily. Once that is done, he can begin the process of getting you added to his orders so you can move with him.

Of course, that is assuming you want to. Going with him will mean extending his tour there to a three year accompanied rather than a two year unaccompanied. However, since you could go with him, refusing to do so could have some implications. You don't mention his rank. If he is less than E4, chances are he will live in the dorms unless you move with him when he goes over. If he is in the dorms, and you voluntarily decide not to join him in Japan, he will only get differential BAH..the dollar amount difference between single rate BAH (which the military would keep as he lives in the dorms) and dependent rate. This is generally only a couple hundred dollars, so if you voluntarily decide not to go with him, you will be unable to cover your rent with his BAH. If he has enough rank to live off base, he will get single rate BAH and most of it will go to cover his living exspenses there..again you won't see much of it. If you go with him, chances are you will live off base at first (getting dependent rate BAH to pay the rent). You can then decide if you want to stay off base and get the BAH or if you would rather give that up and move into base housing. We lived in Japan for 7 years, both on and off base. I preferred base housing..it was larger, better able to handle american furniture, had full sized appliances, internet, etc. You didn't have to pay for things like water, electricity, heating (Usually done with kerosene heaters) or trash pick up. Utilities in Japan are very exspensive, as is rent, so even with BAH and supplementary housing COLA, we barely broke even. Base housing tends to be of several types., although most bases in Japan have what are called towers..high rise apartments..as well as townhome styles and other units. It depends on the base. If you are unsure my advice is to go! Japan was a fantastic experience and something that you may never get the chance to do again. Good luck

You yourself will need your marriage license, your birth certificate and your social security card so he can show it to the personnel servicing center in order to get you enrolled into DEERS. They will then issue you an orange military ID Card. From there, go to the local TRICARE Servicing Center. Once TRICARE sees you are enrolled into DEERS, they can enroll you under TRICARE PRIME for Family Members but your enrollment won't take effect for a month (if I remember correctly).

Now...what he can also do is if he is pending a PCS to Japan, he can request Command Sponsorship once he gets there so that the government will cover your move to Japan with him. You will need to get your passport done, which shouldn't take too long to get. More than likely when the request is approved, you will either live on the economy or live in on-post housing. Most of the apartments in Japan are westernized...same as in Korea. Just remember that everything is opposite in Japan like in England.

Not necessarily. Many times they use a different address and the notices go there.

The only way you would find out is if the credit company does a search and finds your real address, then they might, or might not, send notices to your home.

People move all the time and the bank just uses the address reported on the application. If you were to move you would have to contact your legitimate creditors and tell them your new address.

The key is lighting (no pun intended!), not the settings. Are you using multiple flashes? I'll assume not

You'll want adequate depth of field, but on a point and shoot cam you don't have to worry too much about it.

If you want shots that are consistent, then shoot in manual mode. You should be able to choose a pretty big aperture (low number). F/2.8 - F/4 should be fine.

Shutter speed should be pretty quick, but not at the expense of a very high ISO. Keep the ISO between 100 - 200 for good results. Shutter speed shouldn't drop below 1/60th for good crisp images. Better yet up around 1/100th - 1/200th.

Work on lighting, see if you can diffuse your flash (if you're using it).

You will be fine sans ID 99.9% of the time. Very rarely, someone from the Department of Homeland Security will enter a bus and ask random people their citizenship -- and sometimes ask for proof of citizenship (a state-issued ID would suffice). This happed to me only twice and I used to travel quite extensively on buses.

And just think of all the extra money I can make by selling your data to various people. Because of my job I have to take pictures of photo ID's (Drivers licenses, State ID cards, school ID cards etc.) to keep on file. Does anyone know what settings will be best on this camera. 9 times out of 10 the pictures are taken indoors.

I have a Canon SD 1000, I work with photo ID's for a living. What camera settings will work best?
as your are copying a flat surface a small apeture can be used, so F4 or so and turn the flash off

edit in your experience/knowledge and i will come back and give more info if you like?

easy way is set up a tripod, stick the objct to the wall, double sided tape will do it, once you do it once perfect note the settings and repeat them as needed

• Set ISO to 80, Color to Neutral, no flash.

• You should use a tripod and available light; learn how to use the manual white balance (with a piece of white or grey paper).

• Set the camera to macro (flower icon) mode and make sure the ID card is flat. (Use drafting tape to hold it down.)

If you have marrige,birth and pasport there should not be a problem. My Philippine wife was not yet a citizen when she got her first Dependant I.D.

To have an I.D. card means SOMEONE has your name and information in a data base. That data can be available to almost anyone and you wouldn't know it or even be sure that information is safe.

The more electronic the world gets (data storage, etc I mean) the less privacy we all have.

Military ID is limited to those people serving in the military. Immediate family members and retirees are given ID cards to verify that they can use military facilities such as the PX.

Reply:yes, they can refuse service to anyone they want. besides in the US the only legal types of ID for purchasing cigs/alcohol are: Drivers license or state issued ID card (sorry, not the paper, it needs your picture on it) Military ID, or Passport.

If they get caught selling you cigs with just those papers they can get into major trouble.

If Customs and Border Protection didn't ask for ID, terrorists would be able to get into this country very easily. Are you that anxious for a repeat of 9/11?

Let me dispel a rumor before it festers into fact: Carrying an ID card does NOT make you a number. It doesn't make you insignificant. It provides a lot of people and a lot of government agencies with a means to confirm that you really are who you say you are. What's the real issue here? Are you really that afraid that the government is going to turn into some huge watchdog conglomerate? (If you are, then you should NOT vote Democrat -- they're trying to re-create the former Soviet Union right here in the U.S.) Or do you just not want to be told what to do?

Believe me, the last thing you want is a society with no rules and no boundaries. If our society were truly like that, there would be one law that applied to everyone, and that would be the law of the jungle (survival of the fittest). Would you like it if someone who was bigger and stronger than you came along and beat the crap out of you just because he felt like it, or because you had something he wanted? How would you feel about the inevitable end result of that -- those with the guns (namely the military) would be in charge -- how does that idea grab you?

Im active duty, i dont think you have to give it back, you cant use it anymore now that its expired, but unless they send you something saying you need to turn it in, you dont need to, plus if they did need it back, they would have taken it when you outprocessed right?

Look, many of us...myself included...kept our last ID card to put in a shadow box or whatever, but flashing it around like your somebody...esp. to a LE officer is just plain stupid. Take it home and frame it with your discharge paperwork and let it take a rest.
Reply:The ID belongs to the military, not you, so should have been returned when you were discharged. At this point, keeping it would not be an issue but showing it to anyone, especially a law enforcement officer (there are huge numbers of ex-military working as police officers) is foolish. Take it home and tuck it into a box or frame.

If you do give it back, they will shred it, and tell you to have a nice day. They do not have a 'hit squad' of people going after former-military personnel looking for expired id cards.

Now, if you try to enter a military installation and show the gate guards your expired military id, they will confiscate it, and tell you to have a nice day. For access to a military installation, you just need to show them your driver's license and tell them why you want access to the base. Then they will show you to the vehicle pass office right inside the gate. There, you will receive a day-pass and be on your way.

I would keep it, frame it, display it, or whatever. When people try to use it as if it is a valid id is when you start getting in trouble.

Reply:by law you are required to surrender the ID card as it is property of the DoD and says so on the card. Most people dont ask for it, so that you can keep it for the memories, but showing it around could get it taken away and sent back to the military.

California ID's and driver's licenses have the photo on the right for those under 21 and on the left for those over 21.
Reply:I don't know about California, but some states differentiate between straight and looking to the side to distinguish between jr %26amp; regular license. Others states do it to specify those underage for alcohol purchase. I've only ever seen Id's with the photo in the upper left... I don't know about placement on the actual card.

I'm not surprised--we've been heading this way for a long time. Next is an implanted chip that will have to be read by a scanner before anyone can buy or sell anything. Probably on your head, hand, or forearm. Does this sound familiar to anyone?

Anxiety is rising among local undocumented immigrants who fear they could lose their cars and mobile homes.Some fears may be unfounded.It comes as Indiana's Bureau of Motor Vehicles checks its driver's license and state ID card records with a Social Security database.In November, the bureau sent letters to 206,000 residents whose records didn't match -- a mix of races and situations that included native-born citizens and undocumented immigrants If the mismatches aren't resolved by Jan. 31, licenses and ID cards will be revoked.

And since Nov. 7, the BMV has been checking Social Security records before issuing any new driver's licenses, ID cards, permits or titles to cars and mobile homes. That enforces a rule that has been on Indiana's books since 2001.

But the existing titles to cars and mobile homes won't be affected, BMV spokesman Dennis Rosebrough said.

Then again, advocates ask, how do you drive without a license?

The rumors seem especially strong in the Goshen area, where many immigrants live in mobile homes.

"Every single customer that walks in here talks about it," says Sergio Guajardo, sales manager for the Mexicar used-car lots in Goshen and Ligonier.

The Goshen lot has gone two months without selling a single car to its mostly Latino customers. So Mexicar may decide to close the lot in a couple of months, even though the lot opened six years ago and had decent sales until now, Guajardo says.

Oh my, some states are actually enforcing our immigration laws. How racist! If you obey our laws, then you have nothing to fear. This mexicar dude sold cars almost exclusively to illegal aliens and now they aren't buying from him. Tough sh*t, dude. Get a legal job. Reply:The federally mandated Real ID act is slowly going into effect in the US. Some states are being slower than others. Some are trying to contest it but it comes down to getting the federal government to give the states more money to implement it. My state is just doing it. But it will be everywhere in the end because IDs from the states that don't comply will be near useless and the feds will withhold money for roads, schools and such.

It works like this....... when you renew your license you show you social security and whatever documents. Even legal residents do not get a new license right then. After everything is checked and it will be either mailed to you or you pick it up.

The thing in the article is an extension of this. If you are legal there are no issues. If not well..... no license. If the social security number is ruled invalid letters will be sent to their employer informing them that they are violating federal law. And what they are saying is that they won't seize your property and you can sell it if you have to.

No license meansno insurance so all are at risk. No car means no way to get to work to pay for things such as car payments or a mortgage. They will probably lose that job anyway. Federal law already says you have to show ID when getting a job. So no license means no job.

So they have every reason to be concerned. Advocates can fight and petition on a local level all they want but it will change nothing. The state is enforcing it's law that has been on the books since 2001. So why now after so long? Because enforcing this now will make it cheaper for the state when they have to enforce the Real ID act.

During past renewals, I have noticed that the staff would punch a hole on the card and place the card in a ringed-folder. Do they file these cards away? I was wondering because during my last renewal, the staff just put my expired card in the shredder. I thought that was odd, as I was expecting it would be neatly stored in the ringed-folder along with other expired cards. Instead it was just tossed in the shredder machine.

Every thing that is on that card is updated into the computer. If they saved all the expired cards it would take up space for no reason.

When they were put on a ring they were probably destroyed all at one time.

Here in California they give the expired card back to you and you do what ever you want to with it....I have my drivers License form 12 years ago---LOL what a difference.

It not so much the card itself that is frightening. What is frightening is that this administration seems hell bent on fulfilling Bible prophecy stated in the book of Revelations.
