Yes, to test drive it. If you don't test drive, you wouldn't need to. But who buys a car without test driving it first?

Since I went by myself to buy my car, I had to show my license otherwise the dealer wouldn't let me drive out of the lot with the car.

Reply:You did not state if for used or new. I only have experience with used. In all cases, last just few months ago, yes I did and I was paying cash. I never thought to ask why. *mamatx
Reply:No not at all we just show up at the show room and the car salesman lets us pick out any car that we want and then they give us the keys and we drive away without a care in the world. No one ever questions us about anything like that at all everyone here trusts everyone else there would never be a thought that we might not be honest and true with red white and blue running through our veins! Its a great country please come and join us!
Reply:yes. most places will ask for 3 different types of ID. it also requires a very long credit and background check.
