Who needs ID cards; call to add young to DNA database...whether they like it or not. Anyone remember SUS law?

Gary Pugh, who is due to become Acpo's spokesman on DNA, told the Observer that not enough of the "right people" were being sampled. Thirty years ago, anyone under the age of 25 who experienced the Orwellian actions of authority would have done something about it (at whatever degree). Will the same young folk express their feelings in the same way today?

Who needs ID cards; call to add young to DNA database...whether they like it or not. Anyone remember SUS law?
The UK is a nation of individuals with no central organisation to voice their objections.

30 years ago there were the trade unions who, rightly or wrongly, were the voice of the workers. They were decimated by Thatcher who viewed the Unions as a threat to her way of life. Since that time the people of this country have had no means of raising objections to any legislation passed by any party in power.

We have become an extremely divided and conquered nation. Until such time as an individual or group steps forward that the people are willing to follow we shall remain so. Until that time we will remain at the mercy of those who hold the reins of power.
Reply:No they won't because they've been drinking flouridated water all their lives, so they don't have the ability to fight back. The fight was destroyed by the flouride.

Anyone who still has the ability to resist needs to. Resist to the end.
Reply:Who needs ID cards:

Everyone should have one it would save the police a lot of time.

DNA database:

Why not have you something to hide, it would offer a level of protection not yet seen anywhere.
Reply:This is BS.

All that needs to be said.

You want to prove my guilt, investigate me, not put my dna in a slot machine.
Reply:This world is as much mine as anyone else's and it is my life.

If I choose to have an ID Card or my DNA taken, then I will.

But as I don't and do not agree with it, then I won't.

I am sick of big brother telling me what to do, especially when I know he is wrong.

The name 'Adolf Hitler' comes to mind, ...and 'Nazi regime' when I hear politicians taking away our rights, or forcing things upon us, ...and I am obviously not alone with these thoughts.

They will be tattooing bar codes on our arms next or, even worse, ...planting micro chips in our babies heads when they are born, ...with an explosive charge, so that, when they are older, they can get rid of them if they don't pay their Community Charge or, if you are reaching retirement age, ...they could blow your head off and then keep your pension money so that they can buy another mansion or gas guzzler Lexus or Jaguar for themselves.

Good Question, ...but what is the true answer?
Reply:Thatcher's children? They won't do anything! Greed and selfishness are considered virtues now, it's ***** everyone else.

Do you agree or disagree with the supposedly new ID cards?

The new ID cards they have been suggesting we carry or do you think another solution would be better? Say, like for the future the beginning of DNA testing from birth so this way people can be identified? (Although we need a solution at present)

Do you agree or disagree with the supposedly new ID cards?
The arguments put forward in favour of ID cards are largely a blind. There's little or no reason to believe that these would have a significant impact in fighting terrorism or dealing with illegal immigration and benefit fraud. I've been involved in this kind of area and there is no document that cannot be forged, given the will, money and technology. Terrorists and criminals running major fraud operations are the very people with the will and means to do this. And so they will. Sure ID cards might have an impact on, say, your more opportunist benefit fraud but to nothing like the extent necessary to justify such enormous expense. And don't for a moment believe that even the several billion pound cost presently projected won't rise to a still more astronomical number - this invariably happens with government IT contracts.

So ID cards will be hugely expensive and of marginal value in fighting serious organised crime. Exactly what does justify the cost ? It's all speculation really but best bet is probably a national database, storing large amounts of data for each of us. Does sound very 'big brother' I know but then we've now reached the point where chips in bins to check we're disposing of rubbish correctly are becoming a reality - bets are off, I'd say.

The interesting thing about a national database is what would be included ? Name, address, date of birth, place of birth, blood group, driver or not - maybe. But how about criminal record, relationship history, medical history, sexual orientation, employment, income ? How about more commercial information, useful to the private sector. If that sounds ridiculous just think about the ever growing amount of private sector involvement in the public services - cleaning hospitals badly, running prisons for profit. This might be alarmist and wrong but, think about it, what else justifies the cost ?
Reply:It is none of the government's business what I do, what I think, what I eat, drink, where I go, who I meet, what I think about them and anything else. HANDS OFF ME.
Reply:You can avoid the new ID card by simply buying a UK passport. If you do this in 2007, you will not have to buy the ID card until 2017.
Reply:I like the new ID cards.
Reply:They will have to take my DNA sample by force.

I didn't like the retinal and fingerprint scans put on my driver's license as it it.

Big Brother and the Anti-Christ are in league with one another!

Best Wishes,

Sue
Reply:How do you know what the information collected is to be used for? In future how do you know that criminals won't be convicted by a computer alone matching the D.N.A found at a scene of crime (D.N.A evidence is not infallible). The absolute bottom line is that I will not have one of these cards. History shows that what you are told by a politician is only ever half the story of what is intended and while i have nothing to hide I do fear what the future holds in a country where the authorities hold data of what literally makes up you.

We need to remember that this is the digital age, if ID cards are going to solve all crime overnight and make the UK safe from terrrorists then I am the president of the U.S.A. Anthing that can be made or produced can be forged and at the end of the day what will stop a determined hacker from changing details of DNA online (the database would have to be online in some form or another to allow the various police forces and authorities to access it when required)

Why did we even bother fighting world war II when we have a government who has forgotten what freedom is.

Hitler would be proud.
Reply:I say you must have one if you arent British born.
Reply:I do not agree with having identity cards for Genuine UK citizens and its the Government that is making us have them due to the problems they have caused by letting so many illegal immigrants entering our country.

I think it is very wrong that we have to prove that we are British, instead, all those people who were not born in the UK should have to have them, and if they do not have one, they should be deported as soon as possible.

On the subject of DNA,I do agree that everyone should give a sample in order to set up a national data base, this will help with crime detection and.identification in cases of dead people found without I.D on them.
Reply:They are a Very good idea. If you are doing nothing wrong then you have nothing to fear.
Reply:i Agree. ID cards are great but with DNA i do not agree
Reply:I have still have mine from when I was a child. They were issued in the second World War and believe were renewed until the early years of the 1960's.So it is not new. What is new concerns what the cards can now have on them.I believe your name address, your position as a Uk Citizen, blood group if you wish it to be available and Religion if you wish it to be known. If the information is incorrect it should be a criminal offence with serious consequences. There should be no charge.
Reply:first it will be id cards then it will chips inside our body . we are all ready living in a police state cameras every place you go . why do you think the government subsidised phone company's so we can all have Mobil phones . once the phone was registered they can tell exactly where we are going and where we have been . i see in some of the answers people are not seeing the big picture they say if you do nothing wrong then you have nothing to fear . as citizens we are all powerless already against the will of the government we pay taxes and they waste our money we have to have charity events to keep children's wards at hospitals open we have thousands living in poverty .but they go and give our money to crazy dictators so they can buy weapons to kill and torture innocent people they lied to us and tricked us in to going to war and now our solders are dying every day what power do we have to stop them NOTHING at all . ID cars are just another way of control the population . everyday we loose more and more of our freedom soon you will not be able to criticise the government in anyway . just remember what happened to Dr Kelly he was just telling the truth . soon it will be us .
Reply:new id cards are OK they need to be secure we need competent people with integrity to issue oversee and scrutinize all new issued current

citizens will have to be verified along the way

and a database with finger print and retina verification for cards
Reply:ID cards are a huge invasion of privacy. To the people that say they have nothing to fear if you're doing nothing wrong, you're wrong about that. People, wake up. The World Government is getting closer. The naivete of the human race is astounding. Do a search on The Skull %26amp; Bones club at Yale University. It will open your eyes. And the idea of DNA testing from birth is horrible.
Reply:No. I disagree.
Reply:It assumes everyone is guilty until they can prove themselves innocent. If someone asks for my identification it basically means "I don't trust you enough not to lie about who you are". The whole thing is demeaning and beneath contempt.
Reply:well... I don't mind the idea overall... as long as they don't get too carried away with it...

I don't want a government that throws people in jail because they left their card at home... that's not what America was meant to be... that's exactly why America was created... to do something different than that...
Reply:Nooooooo: Big Brother coming true
Reply:The terrorist thing is being pushed here to make people afraid of each other. A theory has been put forth that the U.S. govt. is behind the 9/11 attacks.

What are the new ID cards supposed to do that your drivers license doesn't do?

Its all to help bring in the world government as soon as the Constitution can be dismantled and that is being done now.
Reply:This is another government smoke screen to further control the masses.

It is not the average guy in the street they should fear, but the reaction to thier political actions by those people affected or killed.

I am adamantly against the invasion of my privacy any further.

Who has or will obtain access to such information???

The goverment can't even keep their own secrets without leaks to the press.

We are becoming (or have become) a police state.
Reply:No I don't agree with them its not even tried and tested yet like any product they develop for the market, I think the problems that will arise with this are clear and easy, fraud, and it will cost alot and taxpayers won't want to pay for something that it is costing their wages more so why people want to spend more money, on something thats costing them more and more year round.

I think the only thing that the people want is to strive to have new ideas but its just another government advertising campaign to generate more of an income for the current government legislations and the provisions of providing electronic id isn't going to develop until the twenty 1st century.
Reply:I don't have a problem with it because I'm not up to bad stuff, we do need ID that is as hard as possible to forge or fake.

Why are they replacing driver license in America to national id cards you have to scan your finger to get it?

next they are going to shove a camera up our as.......

More personal liberty being stripped away.

Very unconstitutional

Why are they replacing driver license in America to national id cards you have to scan your finger to get it?
Good grief!! If you are honest and law abiding, you should have nothing to worry about.
Reply:positive id.then the dead cant vote or felons or illegal immigrants.you know, the people who democrats count on to vote.
Reply:but what stops an illegal from getting one, and how do we know we wont stop americans from getting one.

So our government lets in too many illegals, leaves the borders unsecured and then comes back and tells us that the solution is to force american citizens to go through more than they should have to to get a drivers license. All that while still doing nothing about stopping illegals from coming in. Hmmmmmmm?!!
Reply:So big brother knows where you are and what you're doing.
Reply:because our country let in way too many illegals!!! if your blonde and blue, etc.etc. why would you even need one?? and speak english, more money, always, for something else, that the tax payers have to shell out for!!! sickning!!
Reply:for my safety
Reply:The government is just taking another step to having complete control over its people. its scary, everyone should protest it. it doesn't matter if you are a law abiding citizen or not, your personal liberty is in jeopardy.
Reply:to tighten down on security. I agree with it.
Reply:terrorism
Reply:Its about time.
Reply:I haven't heard about a national ID card. But we've needed one for a long long time.

Incidently, the Social Security Act expressly prohibits the SS Card from being used as an ID card of any kind because of fear it would become a "national ID", which the Congress and FDR absolutely didn't want back in 1933.

Where can you get ID cards?

My 18th birthday is coming up and I wonderd where I could get an ID card from in the uk. I dont drive so cant use a drivers licence. Does anyone know?

Where can you get ID cards?
The motor vehicles dept can issue you an ID card, even if you don't drive.

Is there an ID card available for international travelers with prosthetic devices?

I am going to do some international travel this summer. I know there is an ID card available for people with pacemakers, etc to help them more easily get through security checkpoints. Is such a card available for people with prosthetic devices, such as legs which may normally be covered by pants?

Is there an ID card available for international travelers with prosthetic devices?
as far as I know there is no card. I just tell people at the security gate that I wear an artificial leg. One woman I know carries her disabled parking permit with her and a note from the doctor. And I know another woman with multiple health issues has it included in her medical alert bracelet.

I haven't had any real issues flying. I was told they can't tell you to take off your prosthetic and so far I've never so much as been asked. They ask to pat down the leg but always get a woman and never make a big deal of things.

National ID Cards in the UK?

-k- I'm just trying to understand all the furor behind these... I'm not implying that I support them or anything, just trying to get it clear. What makes national ID cards so terrible when we have social security numbers, drivers licenses, etc. I mean, the government already has us assigned to numbers so why all the uproar now?

National ID Cards in the UK?
for one thing, national id cards have been tied to almost every instance of genocide in modern history ... im not sure about the UK, but in the US they will be giving us chipped cards in 2008 and most likely there will be a centralized data base ... most likely in the future you will be required to scan ur card for every transaction, maybe even to get online, and probably anywhere you travel ... in the US the rules have been left up to homeland security ...i think the opportunity for abuse of the system and opression of the people and rights is very high and it is dangerous to have a system like that...
Reply:Why not ? Takes ppl's minds away from the real issues.
Reply:It's about the RFID tracking chips and the assignment of various forms of usage tax liability for the individual products that have the tracking chips. Cash will be able to be tracked from one person to another through these chip IDs and any manner of taxation can be created and enforced...a BAD precedent.
Reply:Largely because we already have so many numbers assigned to us. While if I thought that the ID cards would simplify matters I would support them, instead I suspect it will end up as another piece of plastic in my wallet. Another database with my name, and another billion quid wasted by the government.
