I lost my purse in it was my id, social security card some credit cards and my checkbook?

i lost my purse in it was my id, social security card some credit cards and my checkbook. I reported to my bank I lost my purse and a week later a total of $4000 of bad checks were written to major stores. The bank is investigating this matter. But what about the stores that the checks were written out to? what will happen to me, what will the stores do?

did you happen to file a police report that you had lost your purse. I wonder if it may have protected you. You need to cancel the credit cards and keep on the bank big time
Reply:This happened to me, you will have to file affidavits of forgery with every check that was written. Your banker will help you do this. Another thing that is disturbing about this that I learned is, when you call your bank to notify them of stolen checks, this doesn't automatically show up at merchants. So if a merchant is using a telecheck system or say a checkwrite system, they need to be notified as well.

You won't have to worry about anyone coming after you as far as the stores go, as you are not liable. If you have good credit, monitor your credit reports, because they will be filling out applications for credit in your name. Make sure like they said that you put a fraud alert on all 3 credit reports.

Also like said earlier, file a police report.
Reply:your signature is NOT on the check and they should have checked for an I.D. of the check writer so in my opionion THEY are resposible for not doing their job
Reply:Notify all 3 credit bureaus put a fraud alert on your record immediately and file a police report.
Reply:they probably won't hold you liable, especially if you don't always do stuff like that. you need to work on getting your social security number changed or something, so you don't end up being another you.
