What are some safety hazards when using neck lanyards for ID cards?

the obvious is strangulation. That's why a large percentage of them are break away incase it gets caught in a machine or grabbed by another person it will break apart and not strangle the wearer. Though not all are break away. Another may be too much strain on a neck if someone tends to hang too much weight off of it (i.e. keys, pins, glasses... etc)

Newer lanyards are designed with safety in mind and will release if jerked or pulled on. This is normally explained on the tag that comes with the lanyard that everyone throws away with out reading!!
