ID cards 'may be used to spy on us'
Press Assoc. - Sunday, June 8
A compulsory identity card could be used to carry out surveillance on people, MPs have warned.
Members of the Commons home affairs select committee said they were concerned that the way the authorities use sensitive data gathered in the multibillion-pound programme could "creep" to include spying.
The all-party committee also urged ministers to make plans about how to deal with the theft of personal details from the National Identity Scheme, which will build a massive database on every person over 16 in Britain...

Do you agree that compulsory ID cards will be used for covert surveillance: to spy on us? Led by EU dictators?
Yes and UK has the most spied upon population of any country on Earth. This is by no means a new phenomenon and we have been spied on rigously since Elizabethan times.
Modern technology was understood from the very outset and used extensively to evesdrop with good effect, especially during WW2 when the British began intercepting German military radio transmissions.
Soon the British had created the world's first and biggest evesdropping spy organisation, Mi8 (Sig Int) with it's HQ at Cheltenham.
George Orwell knew all about being a spy and was employed by SIS during WW2 in some capacity or other, no doubt scribbling lies about the wives of enemy leaders and so forth.
In 1948 Orwell wrote his book 1984 (simply the year of the book reversed), set in some far future (then) England dominated by a political elite best described as evil and possibly Communist.

No one can deny this novel's power, its hold on the imagination of whole generations, or the power of its admonitions - a power that seems to grow, not...

Our mobile phones can easily be linked to website and from there monitored by anyone who wishes to do so, including our very own boss, or a government agency.
If you have something to say to someone, find a very large field which is not overlooked and speak there. But be warned, because even fields in Northern Ireland were bugged back in the bad old days of 'the troubles'.
Trust me, I'm a spy. . . . .
Reply:yes but it's not europe we need to worry about but the British governement which is becoming more like a soviet bloc dictatorship every day
Reply:I certainly don't expect it to be competently managed that's for sure.
Reply:People with nothing to hide don't have to worry do they?
Reply:Not neccessarily....but it is still a silly idea. Costly, for minimal return
Reply:Live your life truthfully and honestly and you have nothing to worry about!
I always had to laugh when the "big brother" topic came up, and people were up in arms because they may be "spied" on by their Government...like the Polies have nothing better to do in their lives than check out if the Jones's are having sex, or beating their children!
I honestly don't care...if it has even the slightest effect on the security of my country, if it keeps the "bad guys" under some means of control, then I am all for it! I really don't want my city covered in debris when the "bad guys" blow up some icon!
It will never be failsafe, however they ARE making life a lot more difficult and interesting for those who have only evil and destruction on their minds.
Do the right thing, and nobody will take any notice of you!
Reply:These MPs are not worried how it affects the ordinary 'guy' and 'ga'l in the street! They are wondering !How it affects them! Why?It means that they will be under closer scrutiny!I agree with a personal Identity Card Scheme!I have nothing to hide! The fact is!Have our trusted MPs??
Reply:Absolutely. This Government have turned us into a nanny state.
There are unregulated CCTV cameras watching our every move yet how much crime have they really solved or prevented?
Under the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act authorities are only supposed to use surveillance when it is proportionate to the matter being investigated and it is the only means of investigating the matter. Those restrictions were put in place to protect our privacy and stop authorities abusing the legislation yet Councils are following school children to see which catchment are they live in, proportionate my backside!
The Government can't control the legislation we already have so what chance have they of controlling ID card information?
Compulsory ID cards, does anyone really believe they will in any way prevent a terrorist detonating a bomb, if they are determined to kill themselves and others an ID card is not going to stop them is it? We are giving up our civil liberties for little or no gain and it needs to be stopped.
Reply:ID cards are so stupid. We already have an ID document - it's called a drivers licence or passport.
Instead we should be adding biometric information to these forms of ID - fingerprint, maybe even DNA.
Maybe ID cards can be available for those who don't have the above documents, but definately not compulsory for all.
