What do you think about ID cards?

I think if everyone refuses to carry them - they can't throw us ALL in jail. Are you just a number?

it doesnt bother me, carry that much plastic these days anyway, another wouldnt matter, besides, the girls that work in the garage these days are not up to scratch and i reckon i could use my id card to get petrol there and they wouldnt notice, about £25,s worth too. xxx

Reply:ID cards do serve a legitimate purpose. If banks didn't ask for ID then I could go to the bank and endorse a check made out to you and the bank would give me the money for it. Does that sound good to you? If police officers didn't check your ID then people who don't have a license could drive cars. Would you want one of them crashing into you? If Customs and Border Protection didn't ask for ID, terrorists would be able to get into this country very easily. Are you that anxious for a repeat of 9/11?





Let me dispel a rumor before it festers into fact: Carrying an ID card does NOT make you a number. It doesn't make you insignificant. It provides a lot of people and a lot of government agencies with a means to confirm that you really are who you say you are. What's the real issue here? Are you really that afraid that the government is going to turn into some huge watchdog conglomerate? (If you are, then you should NOT vote Democrat -- they're trying to re-create the former Soviet Union right here in the U.S.) Or do you just not want to be told what to do?





Believe me, the last thing you want is a society with no rules and no boundaries. If our society were truly like that, there would be one law that applied to everyone, and that would be the law of the jungle (survival of the fittest). Would you like it if someone who was bigger and stronger than you came along and beat the crap out of you just because he felt like it, or because you had something he wanted? How would you feel about the inevitable end result of that -- those with the guns (namely the military) would be in charge -- how does that idea grab you?
