Do IRR(Inactive Ready Reserve) military dependents still get ID cards and privileges?

My husband is getting off active duty in the Marine Corps, and I have no idea if I will still get an ID card to get on and off base and to use the exchange and commissary.

Do IRR(Inactive Ready Reserve) military dependents still get ID cards and privileges?
Actually I've been in the IRR since June when I got out of the USAF. IRR members do get a reserve ID and have full priveleges for base and commissary. We just dont get healthcare or pay. It is the duty of anyone in the IRR to keep the government updated on their status, including marriage and location. Whether this would mean dependent reserve ID's I don't know. I don't have any dependants. I'm in the Army now, leave for training in a couple weeks.

Alright I guess all the people here that aren't in the IRR know more about it than me, who is actually a part of it. I've still got my briefing packet and seperation orders, along with a DD Form 2 Green Reserve ID Card which is good until 2011 when my 8 years is up. But hey according to the thumbs down Im wrong so whatever.
Reply:I am in the IRR... personnel in IRR and their dependents are authorized a ID Card as long as you are in the IRR. See order MARINE CORPS ORDER P5512.11C chapter 13 section 2. and pg 32 table 1.9 for dependents. Report Abuse

Reply:nope sorry, no benefits...IRR is pretty much a civillian
Reply:IRR does not rate base priveldges for the member or the dependants; not able to sue the exchange or other base facilities.
Reply:IRR families no longer get benefits..actually, neither does the active duty member. He will not have access to the commisary, PX or even most bases unless he has a copy of orders giving him permission to be there. The only time family members keep military privelages is a) if the active duty member seperated from the military with enough time in to earn some level of transition benefits or b) the active duty member served a full 20 or more years and is retired.
Reply:no. Only if he were recalled to Active Duty.

Wraeth: the question is about a SPOUSE..and no, spouses of IRR do NOT rate an ID card. period.
Reply:NO, Your husband has to be on Active Duty!!
Reply:the only way you'll get an id card is if he retires. if he is just getting out an going into the irr, then no you will not get the id card nor will you get any kind of benefits. if he is honorably discharged, then he'll get all the benefits that a veteran is entitled to. if he still has time left why doesn't he go into the reserves? if he does that, then you have a good chance of getting some of the benefits you had while active. you get the id cards, tricare(thats the army health plan), life insurance, death/dismemberment insurance, among others.
Reply:no, welcome back to the real world
Reply:Nope.

IRR is just a way to keep your husband on the list to be called up in the event of a major war. For all intents and purposes, he is discharged from the active military. You will no longer have those benefits.
Reply:You are entitled to full privileges as long as he's on active duty. You'll have to go to the local installation (any service should be able to help you, but start with the nearest Marine Corps or Navy installation) and get enrolled into DEERS, the Defense Eligibility Enrollment System. Make sure that you have your personal ID as well as proof he's your husband with you when you get there.

BTW--IRR stands for *Individual* Ready Reserve.
Reply:No, IRR personnel and thier families don't receive any benefits at all. If he is recalled to AD, then you will get an ID card and all the benefits.
