How does everyone feel about the new national ID cards for the US?

they will have to be in affect in 2 years. I fell like we are spending unnecessary money and have our freedom taken away.

How does everyone feel about the new national ID cards for the US?
Pres Chimp was refering to the book by George Orwell named "1984". In it, Orwell predicted a society where every person was constantly supervised and regulated by the government.

Just for historical perspective, Orwell was a British citizen and wrote the book in 1948. He picked 1984 as the year by reversing the last two digits and thought this was a far enough away time frame that it was a distant future. There are many people who are now saying he was correct, just his time estiamtes were slightly off.

I would assume that Pres. Chimp's point was that the ID card is just another step closer to the society predicted by Orwell. I fully agree with this sentiment.
Reply:This is just another way to take more freedom away...also, A monkey can run this country better...I know the senator for this state needs to be an ape not what we have in office right now...
Reply:Pres. Chimp, when ya gonna run for office? You have my vote!
Reply:Shhh. Big Brother is listening.
Reply:How interesting. I don't go out of my way to keep up on most news stories, and obviously I paid a price on this issue because I had no idea it was going on.

I read the two articles below. I can't share the same concern the ACLU does, but I don't normally share anything with them.

Spending unnecessary money? Don't think it's unnecessary. Think it's a lot of money having to be spent in a short period of time, but can't agree that it's unnecessary.

And I don't understand what you mean by having freedom taken away. What freedom will you lose because of this card?

From what I saw, you may be denied certain opportunities such as entering a federal courthouse or flying on a plane. One of the below articles says, "...if you live or work in the United States, you'll need a federally approved ID card to travel on an airplane, open a bank account, collect Social Security payments, or take advantage of nearly any government service."

I have no problem with this. Frankly, I'd appreciate knowing that the people who are doing those things are doing them from within the "system," and not from without.

So I guess my answer is that I feel okay about the new card.

Here's the articles I read, hope the links work:

Reply:What do you expect from the Fascist Bush regime. Personal freedoms have been cast aside by this evil man.
Reply:ummm no b/c our SSN is not safe
Reply:How would that take away your freedom? If anything it would be an effective way for the government to distinguish between citizens and illegals, making things more efficient and reducing mistakes.
