Do you think having ID cards in the UK is a good thing?

The current government is determined to bring in compulsary ID cards for all citizens which will cost the british people around £20 billion. To my knowledge no one wants the ID cards but the government have ignored petitions, protests, and concerns against the system.

Do you think the implementation of the ID cards is a good thing and why?

Do you think having ID cards in the UK is a good thing?
The British and U.S. government's are way to intrusive on their citizens. The U.S. has learned much of this from the Brits. NWO is inevitable!!!
Reply:Identification cards should not be the norm internationally, as a matter of fact, driver licenses should also be international. International ID card is now needed due to the ever growing threat of global terrorism.
Reply:personnally i agree with government, i have nothing against foreigners (cos i m one of them) but u can see that most of them are working n living here illigally... this should stop before UK is like a swamp

another issue is about human rights to have a private life, like government is going too deep into citezens lives. but then again if there is nothing to hide from authority logically u shouldnt be afraid to give ur details or being constantly monitored

take a look at CCTV we already in Big Brother style life

so id agree with the idea, no matter if it takes £20 Billion or more, this country is rich enough to go this way in order to protect its citizens
Reply:Yes, a great idea. Even though I'm not from the UK. I'd like to see it in the US. If you are a citizen of the UK and have the ID to prove it, then you should be entitled to the benefits of that country. If you don't have one, then you should be denied those same benefits. Granted it may have cost 20 billion pounds (although that seems a bit high, since there aren't 20 billion people in the UK and that would mean that the cost of one ID is more than 1 pound a piece). How much money would the UK save, if illegals didn't have access to those benefits? Probably 200 billion pounds.
Reply:It is good because the British introduced ID cards in Singapore and Malaya during the Communist Emergency to ID the communist terrorists who had no ID cards as they were in the jungle.

It is very ironic that in the UK , they still have no ID cards and use the Driving Licence. In this age of terrorism and international criminals, ID cards are de rigeur and no innocent person would object. On the other hand those who have evil on their minds, of course, would object because they would not want to be IDed for their crimes.
Reply:it's a good thing, so american companies who make the ID cards will make more money to improve our domestic GDP
