Personal id cards michigan?

so i turned 18 on june 1st and on the 3rd i went to secretary of state and got my id card because i dont have my license yet and i just have the papers saying that i'm 18 until the actual card comes in about a week... but i went to the gas station today to purchase cigarettes and they denied me and i had my school picture id my permit that says i'm 18 and my id paper that says that i'm 18 are they allowed to refuse me?

Reply:yes, they can refuse service to anyone they want. besides in the US the only legal types of ID for purchasing cigs/alcohol are: Drivers license or state issued ID card (sorry, not the paper, it needs your picture on it) Military ID, or Passport.





If they get caught selling you cigs with just those papers they can get into major trouble.
Reply:You need the actual plastic card. Sometimes they refuse the temporary paper ID since it doesn't have a pic.





Not to be judgmental or anything, but you really should try to give up smoking.
Reply:Yeah they are, you don't have a legitimate ID yet, It has to be a government issued picture ID not a government issued ID without a picture coupled with a school id
Reply:Probably not really the IDs fault. They have the right to deny anyone for any reason. Sound like they were fined recently and are being extra cautious.

ID needs to be state issued, so school ID will not work anywhere, but your school.

If you had a paper ID, they should have accepted it as it is state issued.
