Do you think Canadian citizens should hold National Identity cards?

Similar to other countries such as Hong Kong and other countries. It'll mean everyone needs to hold a ID card and provide it for Identification purposes when necessary. Do you think Canadian's should hold national ID cards?

Do you think Canadian citizens should hold National Identity cards?
No. Just exactly what for?? It just sounds expensive and some sort of way to diminish my rights as a citizen. If for crime, it would work worse and cost more than the gun registry, and just look at how much good that has done. If that is your intent, just take the budget for the cards and give it to the RCMP.
Reply:Mainly we do that now with Drivers Licenses and Social Insurance Numbers and other photo IDs we might just have. Another card is not going to help the process probably just slow it down.
Reply:no it's not neccessary for us. as someone mentioned we already are using driver licence and SIN card as our identifications. why even bother waste money and resource to establish another national wide database system for Nationa Identity?

oh by the way, hong kong is not a country. it's a part of the people's public of china.
Reply:I don't see why not.
Reply:no. we have the right to move freely throughout canada. besides it sounds a little too orweillian for me. the whole why care if you have nothing to hide is simply government propaganda.

also as mentioned before it would be extremely expensive and there are certainly better things to spend money on. i don't see any real need for identity cards.
Reply:Your SIN card and driver's license are NOT identification. The SIN is only for use by Revenue Canada (or what ever its called now) so you can pay your income tax, the driver's license only says that you can drive in the provence that you live in. Neither of these cards say that you are a citizen of Canada, because I am a naturalised citizen I actually do have a National Identity card ($80).

I don't have a problem with a national ID card but I can't see much good coming from it
Reply:Yes to those who may object nothing to hide nothing to worry about.. I admire you for bringing this up
Reply:We already do... Social Insurance Cards. You can't get a job anywhere in Canada without one.
