The whole purpose of ID cards is "to protect peoples' identity". Is this the same lad who loses CD's and HDD's

Security illiterate Gordon Brown is pressing on with crack-pot idea of giving information about UK citizens to every corrupt government in the EU! THAT's 34 separate states having a "Field-Day" with OUR confidential details!

Brown says that we are going to get ID cards whether we like it or NOT!

THIS is from a Government that couldn't RUN A COMMODORE 64! Let alone keep information SAFE!

The Half-wit is talking about "Voluntary ID Cards"

We all know what that means!

If you don't get one you'll starve to death!

While I agree with your sentiments don't sweat on it too much.

You have already correctly identified the government's ability in the IT field - how long before they could get a system up and running ? 10.15. 20 years....never?

If they do this is one bear going to prison rather than carry any bloody ID card
Reply:What has Gordon Brown personally done to make him "security illiterate".

So he personally employed 11000 illegal immigrants
Reply:They're just idiots thinking we'll buy that. ID cards will stop crime? Yeah, and so when the criminals work out a way of faking them (within about 2 months) there is absolutely no way that anyone will believe someone's stolen your super-safe ID card identity.

Then of course the government say that they'll prevent terrorism. So what's the biggest terrorist threat to the UK? Home-grown terrorism. What's so special about home grown terrorists? Well they have UK citizenship. So they'll have ID cards. Just like everyone else.

It's just an absolute colossal waste of time and money - and will achieve NOTHING other than making it easier for the government to spy on us.
Reply:No not the sam e lad, their just trying to make opportunities for others.
Reply:So you know what to do, vote him out. Its a shame we cant vote for 'nobody'
