Can the child of a Nation Guardsman in California obtain a military ID card?

I know that my mother got one back in the early 90s after they were married, but I never did. Now I need some sort of government issued ID card to go on a cruise with my friend, but I don't drive and it would take too long to get a California ID from the DMV anyway. Also, he works daily but is not on active duty, and has been serving in the National Guard for 25 years I believe. I just turned 18 last December - so, can I get such an ID?

Yes, you can get a military dependent ID card at age 18. Since he's not active duty Guard, your ID card will be red instead of tan. Well they call it red, but it's really more like pink.





Call nearby military installations beforehand; some don't do them and others only do them certain days and times. It doesn't have to be an Army base; any branch of service can do it.





You and your dad will need to go together and take the following:


- His military ID (of course)


- Your birth certificate


- Your social security card





They will have the DD form for him to complete.





***EDIT: You're eligible for an ID card until age 21 (age 23 as a full-time student) unless you are married. Delaware's national guard web site does a good job of spelling out who's eligible.

Reply:And Mrsjvb, I AM enrolled as a full-time college student, the base already said I COULD get a dependent ID, and I AM sharing a room with an adult over the age of 25 (my friend's parents are the ones who booked the cruise). Report Abuse

Reply:If your father is stationed on a military base, or an active duty guard member you can get a military ID, which is a better alternative to getting a driver's license or a civilian ID card in the first place due to you get the military ID card the same day and its free.
Reply:Yes they can be issued a dependant Id card. Its very easy to adquire on base.
Reply:nope. because he is not AD, you are not entiled to a card even if you are a full time college student.





only full time college students and handcapped(mentally /physically) children can retain an ID card up to age 23 if the sponsor is Active Duty or is called up to AD. otherwise, they lose all eligibiltity at age 18.





BTW.. people under 21 cannot sail on cruises unless there is someone 25 or older booked in the room with them.

Most states have Non-driver ID's and , at least in mine, you dont need an appointment. You need a Birth certificate, another form of ID with a picture on it and proof of residence.
