So you thought ID cards wouldn't affect your liberty.?

British gas took £407 out of my account the other day by direct debit!.

So What!?.

I'm with Scottish Power, thats why. And i have been for three years, ever since I changed my supplier. British gas say it is an accumulation of a debt. They still had access to my bank account, and took the money without consultation, letter or phone call from a direct debit, like I said, was cancelled three years ago!. This happens all the time I was obliged to accept rather pettily.

I was on a gas plan with them and settled a bill of £185, nearly twelve months ago.

ID cards will liberate us from this kind of theft!, I here you say.

Ha!. I feel well and truly lubricated...

By the way. I am now overdrawn and have at least ten direct debits to face charges on when they go out of my account.

Sue them!?. You bet....

So you thought ID cards wouldn't affect your liberty.?
I had the same thing happen to me with BT - I did have some recourse however........I went to my bank as I had previously cancelled the direct debit. I advised them that as there wasnt a valid direct debit set up and that i had not given any instruction then they were to refund me my money. THEY DID! The only way anyone is legally entitled to take funds without giving you written notice is to apply to the courts for an attachment of your Bank Account. Seek advice from the Citizens Advice, but I would contact British Gas and tell them you want copies of all correspondence they have sent you regarding this matter........that should freak them out!
Reply:personally i would be inclined to report this as theft and have british gas charged

as for the ID cards issue I have no doubt whatsoever they are a gross invasion of our liberties and will have little if any effect on crime or terrorism and just another step towards a police state (which I am not against having lived in Russia, but I am against a police state that isnt effective against criminals or terrorists and just concentrates on thought criminals)
Reply:I cannot imagine what ID cards have to do with your gas bills! My husband and I are Spanish Residents, we have residencia cards which have a photograph and a fingerprint, and they are invaluable. Every country should issue them. Unfortunately Spain is doing away with them and issuing a certificate instead without a photo or fingerprint. Shame.

O.Wall
Reply:If what you say is true.........? then the only person it seems at fault here is you!

Did you not let the bank know that you wanted this direct debit cancelled. And if you did? Then the bank is also at fault.

But it seems kinda hard to believe........!
Reply:What the heck has British Gas (who you *were* a customer with and who obviously had your bank details) got to do with ID cards?
Reply:I bet you feel better now. What a rant!
Reply:I hate the idea of ID cards can you imagine the chaos when they try to organise it .

Pin numbers are not as they planned. What would happen if we all refused ?
Reply:let it all out!!

gas and electric companies are all w*nkers.

but a useful thing to know in all your cr*pyness is that if your bank try to charge you for going overdrawn just write to them (use above tone) and tell them they aren't allowed to charge you as it is breaking the law as we are supposed to have free banking. there's loads of law suits going on at the minute about it and they'll just waive the charges instead of risking you taking them to court. and you're obviously good at ranting so i'm sure you'll do well.

hope that makes you feel a little better. but not really sure what id cards has to do with any of that.
